History
The Olcott Bible Church began as the result of the burden God gave to Rev. Thomas Buckley and his wife Carol, for the town of Olcott and the surrounding area. There was no outreach with the gospel into the Village of Olcott.
The first service was held September 18, 1988 with 30 people in attendance. The church rented the Bible Conference Building from the American Mission for Opening Churches (AMOC). The first baptism was on September 10th 1989 in the AMOC swimming pool, with 7 baptized and 2 more on September 17th. Charter Membership Sunday was September 17, 1989 with 29 charter members.
Almost from the outset, the church searched for land to buy and build a church building on. Four acres of land were purchased on 5601 West Lake Road. A garage was erected in December 1989 and the official ground breaking for the church building took place on March 25th 1990. During late March 1990 the workers began to make the foundation for the church building. This was made of 16 foot sections of treated lumber in the garage onsite. The construction of the building began in April 1990. The trusses over the sanctuary were blown down by 70 MPH winds on June 3, 1990. This caused some delay but the cost was covered by insurance. Many SOWER (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready) and RVIC (Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service) families helped church members and others in the area with ground work and construction.
On January 13, 1991 the church moved into everything but the sanctuary wing. Work on the sanctuary was begun in January 1992, paying for the materials as we went. The first baptism in the church was on January 10th 1993 with five people baptized. The sanctuary was not yet complete. The first service in the new sanctuary was Wednesday, October 27, 1993 (a mid-week prayer service). The dedication of the entire church was November 21, 1993 with Dr. Michael Peck as guest speaker.
Pastor Buckley and Carol continued to minister at Olcott Bible Church until August 1996 when they left to begin Church Planters to America in Almond, NY. During the time of searching for a new pastor, Pastor Buckley and several guest speakers filled the pulpit. On November 8, 1998 Dr. Robert Chambers and his wife Ginny began their ministry at Olcott Bible Church. They ministered until October 1999.
A parsonage on Lockport–Olcott Road was purchased in July 1999. This has been used by the pastor and his family, interim pastors, and missionaries over the years.
While the church was searching for a pastor, several guest speakers and Pastor George Brasser served as interim pastor with his wife Malinda . Pastor Gary Mills, his wife Sandy and their children ministered from March 10, 2002 through June 20, 2004.
Pastor Robert Andreas his wife Sue and their family ministered from August 1, 2004 through October 18, 2015. The Andreas are part of Church Planters to America and helped to build the church up spiritually and financially. In 2008 it was decided to purchase a wood furnace to reduce the cost of heating the church building. This was installed in January 2009. A structure for wood storage was erected in January 2011 and a cement pad under the structure was added in May 2011. After paying off the church mortgage in April 2011 (with a mortgage burning celebration on May 22, 2011), it was decided to pave the church parking lot. This was completed in June 2011.
Pastor William Chapman served as interim pastor with his wife Winnie as the church searched for a pastor. Pastor Peter Evander, his wife Stacey and their family began their ministry in Olcott on June 4, 2017.
